COMMIT & ACT FOUNDATION OFFERS EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT TO 300 SGBV SURVIVORS

Commit and Act Foundation Sierra Leone with support from Kinder Missions work has provided educational support to three hundred survivors of Sexual and Gender Based violence who went through their shelter in Bo District from 2020 to 2021.

Addressing the beneficiaries of the project on the 21st September 2021, the Country Director of Commit and Act Foundation- Sierra Leone, Hannah Bockarie said: “We are  here to give  educational support to enhance the achieving of education by the children who have passed through our shelter”.

According to Madam Bockarie they believe that as an organization they should provide quality service to all their beneficiaries.

“We promised that we will provide educational support and we are here to give the school materials including a school bag containing a dozen of exercise book  of  hundred and twenty pages, pens, pencils, ruler, sharpener and other relevant educational materials,’’ she intimated.

Madam Bockarie added that the money given to the parents to the tune of three hundred and sixty thousand Leone to parents with children in primary school and six hundred   and sixty thousand Leones to parents with children in secondary school will help them buy shoes and school uniforms and other things that could not be provided by the Free and Quality Education.

According to Madam Bockarie, CAF-SL is not working in isolation but doing so in partnership with the Government of Sierra Leone’s line Ministries including the Ministry of Social Welfare, Gender and Children’s Affairs, Ministry of Education, adding that the Basic Education Ministry allocated text books to them to be given to the beneficiaries to enhance knowledge acquisition.

Madam Bockarie said that the livelihood support that they are giving to the parents will go a long way to help them to continue to support their children also disclosing how the CAF-SL is also teaching them on the prudent utilization of money to ensure that it is being used for the intended purpose.

Madam Bockarie stressed on the importance of the Girl Child to achieve education and urged the parents to focus on them to ensure that they learn.

She encouraged the children to treat their education with the seriousness it deserves in order to occupy positions of trust to contribute to nation building noting that education is good for the girl child.

The educational stakeholders in Bo District lavish praises on Commit and Act Foundation Sierra Leone for reducing what they described as educational burden on the parents, adding that they are grateful for the implementation of the project in their district and promised to monitor the children and their parents who have been given the educational support to ensure that it is used for the intended purpose.

The Parents who benefitted from the Educational support said they were thinking about how to get money to buy the school materials for their children and how to even continue to support them but thank God Commit and Act Foundation has come to their aid and called on the donors to continue to support their children and other children in other districts.

The Children who benefitted also thanked CAF-SL for reducing the educational burden on their parents and promised that they will be focused on their education to ensure value for money..
