Sierra Leone News: Ebola orphans get educational support

Beneficiaries in KenemaThe Ministry of Social Welfare Gender and Children’s Affairs with support from ECOWAS in collaboration with the Sierra Leone Association of Ebola Survivors (SLAES) has started dishing out educational support worth about $70,000 to about 1,000 Ebola survivors across the nation.
In Kenema, each beneficiary received a school bag, mathematical set, exercise book and Le200,000 for primary school and Le300,000 for secondary school.
Addressing the audience, the national president Sierra Leone Association of Ebola Survivors, Yusuf Kabba, said the team is in Kenema to continue the process they started in the Western Area by giving educational support to school going pupils ensuring that orphans are adequately catered for. He said they have done the same in Bombali, Kono, Tonkolili, Kailahun, now in Kenema and next to Bo district.
Talking on behalf of the Ministry of Social Welfare Gender and Children’s Affairs, Ibrahim Kamara, explained that the Sierra Leone Association of Ebola Survivors signed a grant agreement to implement on behalf of the ministry direct to beneficiary by reducing some of the burdens of caregivers.
