Ahead of World Hepatitis Day on the 28th July 2016, the management of Sierra Rutile Limited (SRL) has provided free vaccination against Hepatitis-B for all of its employees.
Hepatitis-B is an infectious disease caused by the Hepatitis-B virus which affects the liver. It can cause both acute and chronic infections. Many people have no symptoms during the initial infection.
As part of the company’s health objectives, management decided to introduce Hepatitis-B vaccine to all staff as a protection against the disease.
According to the Medical Doctor in-charge of SR clinic, Dr. Joseph Kallon: “it is essential that preventive measures are taken to avoid disease occurrence. As a result, management has seen it fit to ensure the vaccination of all SRL staff against Hepatitis-B infection. This is the best way of preventing one of the most common causes of cancers in Sierra Leone. Vaccination would ensure almost complete immunity against this infection”.
Health and safety continues to be core priorities for SRL. The vaccination exercise started on the 24th March 2016 following an outreach programme organised by the Sierra Rutile clinic. A significant number of employees have been vaccinated and the programme is still on-going.Awoko, Thursday July 28, 2016
