Sierra Leone News : President Koroma Rescues the Victims of the Mambolo Storm

EThousands of people in the Mambolo Chiefdom have been rendered homeless following a heavy rain storm that destroyed over 80 houses in area. While the relevant government institutions, chiefdom and constituency authorities are mobilising assistance for the victims, on Thursday 07 July 2016, President Koroma who is known for care and love for his people has set ball rolling by immediately dispatching some relief items to help salvage the affected communities.

Delivering the items on behalf of His Excellency the President, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, the Special Adviser to the President and Ambassador at Large Hon. Dr. Alhaji Alpha Khan expressed that the news of the storm met the president with mixed feelings because the president was thinking of visiting Mambolo Town after the construction of a first class road leading Mambolo to Freetown. Alhaji Alpha Khan explained that when the president received this news, he wasted no time to contact one of his very hardworking Ministers, Hon. Bai Mahmoud Bangura (Ministry of Youth Affairs) -who is a son of the soil- to work with the necessary institutions to provide support for the victim same.

Hon. Alhaji Alpha Khan further stated that His Excellency’s intervention include188 bundles of Zinc and 88 bags of rice , one for each house; adding that more relief items will be coming to support the victims. Hon. Alpha Khan called on the people and Authorities of Mambolo Chiefdom to remain united and vigilant as global climate experts have forecast that more heavy rain is expected to hit Sierra Leone this year. The disaster management team under the leadership of the Hon. Vice President Victor Bockarie Foh is reportedly working assiduously to ensure that they continue to support the victims.

Paramount Chief of Mambolo Chiefdom P.C. Bai Shebora Lion II expressed thanks and appreciation on behalf of his people to His Excellency President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma for his prompt and timely intervention in helping the affected communities. He called on the government to continue to give support to the chiefdom.

The Member of Parliament for the Constituency- Hon. Mabinty Bangura registered profound gratitude to Minister Bai Mahmoud for helping to coordinate the activities in ensuring that the president responded very quickly. She called on the people to be more proactive and to ensure that they stay out of disaster prone areas.

The event attracted key Government Officers including the Minister of Tourism and Culture; Sidi Yayah Tunis, ONS Coordinator for Kambia District, NaSCA Director and the Sierra Leone Police. Distribution of the relief items of rice and Zinc to the victims climaxed the event.
